Voting for the new leadership of the 11th General Convention of the CPN-UML has been completed. The voting began on Wednesday morning and continued throughout the night.
According to the party’s Central Election Commission Office, out of 2,263 eligible voters, 2,227 cast their votes while 36 delegates could not participate due to various reasons.
The voting was originally scheduled to start at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, but it was postponed several times because of technical problems. It finally began at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Through this election, the party will select one chairperson, five vice-chairpersons, one general secretary, three deputy general secretaries, nine secretaries, and 301 central committee members. Around 642 candidates are competing for these positions.
A total of 80 electronic voting machines were used in the voting process. The party has said that vote counting will begin soon.
