NEPSE Falls on Final Trading Day Despite Higher Turnover

On Thursday, the last trading day of the week, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index went down by 10.66 points and closed at 2,615.03 points.

 

Even though the index fell, total trading activity increased. Shares worth Rs 4.57 billion were traded during the day, which was higher than the Rs 4.05 billion traded on the previous day. Out of all the companies that were traded, share prices of 63 companies increased, while 194 companies saw their prices fall. The share prices of two companies did not change.

 

Looking at different sectors, the finance sector suffered the biggest loss, dropping by 1.55 percent. The hotel and tourism sector, however, stayed unchanged.

 

Some sectors managed to gain despite the overall decline. The non-life insurance sector rose by 0.22 percent, and the trading sector increased by 0.48 percent.

 

Most other sectors ended the day in negative territory. The banking sector went down by 0.22 percent, development banks fell by 0.12 percent, and hydropower dropped by 0.55 percent. The investment sector declined by 0.41 percent, while life insurance fell by 0.67 percent. Manufacturing and processing decreased by 0.17 percent, microfinance dropped by 0.49 percent, and the others sector recorded a loss of 1.19 percent.
