The 19th session of the National Assembly is beginning today.

Since the Parliament building at the International Conference Centre in New Baneshwor was damaged by fire during the Gen-Z protests, the session will be held at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar instead. The meeting will start at 11:00 am.

Ahead of the session, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal held a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee on Friday. In the first sitting, the Chairperson will read out the President’s letter calling the session and present a condolence motion for Nepali Congress lawmaker Baldev Bohara, who passed away recently.

Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Ekram Giri, said all preparations for the session have been completed.

President Ram Chandra Poudel convened the National Assembly session for Sunday, January 18, at 11:00 am, following the recommendation of the Government and the Council of Ministers, in line with Article 93(1) of the Constitution of Nepal.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has also completed preparations for the election of 19 National Assembly members scheduled for January 25. The Commission said one member has already been elected without opposition.

This session is important as preparations for the House of Representatives election are ongoing and new members are expected to join the National Assembly.
