According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, U.S. President Donald Trump is keeping all options open in response to the unrest in Iran. The New York Times, citing a senior U.S. official, reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Trump on Wednesday, urging the U.S. not to carry out any immediate military strike against Iran. However, Trump has been seriously considering the possibility of such an attack for several days.

Meanwhile, according to U.S. media outlet Axios, the U.S. military is withdrawing forces from some bases in the Middle East while also sending additional reinforcements to the region. The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced sanctions on more than 20 individuals and organizations allegedly linked to Iran.

Protests have been ongoing in various Iranian cities since the end of December. Iranian authorities have said they are ready to address economic grievances but have warned against violence, vandalism, and unrest. Initially peaceful, the demonstrations have increasingly turned violent, causing damage to property, mosques, government buildings, and banks. Iranian officials have accused the U.S. and Israel of interfering behind the unrest.
