Senior journalist, former FNJ President and democracy movement veteran Homnath Dahal died last night in Kathmandu while undergoing treatment. His last rites will be held today at Pashupati Aryaghat.

Veteran journalist and a prominent figure in Nepal’s democratic movement, Homnath Dahal, passed away late last night at the age of 84.
According to family sources, Dahal, a former President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and former Minister for Agriculture, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, died at Bir Hospital in Kathmandu while undergoing treatment after suffering a heart attack. He had been struggling with knee-related health problems for a long time and was receiving treatment at his residence in Maitidevi.
Born in the then Baruneshwor Rural Municipality of Okhaldhunga district, Dahal was the editor of the Nepali weekly Rashtrapukar, regarded as the mouthpiece of the Nepali Congress. He was actively involved in party politics, serving as a member of the Nepali Congress Okhaldhunga district committee and later as a central member of the then Nepali Congress (Democratic).
His last rites will be performed today at Pashupati Aryaghat. Dahal is survived by his wife and two sons.
