The United States and Israel carried out a joint overnight attack on five oil storage depots in Tehran and nearby Alborz Province, Iran, triggering massive fires and thick smoke across the capital. Initial reports say several people were killed and others injured, while visibility in the city remained low due to heavy smoke.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society warned that toxic chemicals released from the burning depots could lead to dangerous acid rain if rainfall occurs. Authorities also urged residents to stay indoors as fuel supply in the province has been disrupted and may take two to three days to normalize.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei condemned the attacks as war crimes, accusing the U.S. and Israel of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. According to the Iranian Red Crescent, 1,332 people have been killed and thousands of civilian structures damaged in the ongoing conflict. Iranian military officials also warned that Tehran could retaliate regionally if attacks on its oil infrastructure continue.
