Calls for party Chair KP Sharma Oli’s resignation have stirred debate within the CPN-UML, with central member Laxmi Gautam urging senior leaders to reflect on their own positions first.
Speaking at the party’s ongoing central committee meeting, Gautam said those demanding Oli’s resignation should also be ready to step down themselves. “Some leaders have reportedly asked the chair to resign. But you’ve also held top posts twice. If central members ask for your resignation, will you comply?” she questioned.
Gautam stressed that the remaining one-year term should be allowed to run its course instead of rushing into a general convention. “Leadership changes shouldn’t be driven by pressure or impatience,” she said.
Echoing similar sentiments, central member Romanath Oli cautioned against fueling divisions within the party at a sensitive time. “The UML is already in a difficult phase. The leadership selection process has begunlet’s focus on that rather than internal power struggles,” he noted.
He also emphasized the need to address grassroots grievances, saying the voices of workers and citizens must be heard before moving forward.
