Authorities have rearrested 81 inmates who escaped from Kaski Prison during the Gen-Z demonstrations on September 9, following an extensive nationwide manhunt.

The Department of Prisons had earlier appealed to all fugitives to surrender voluntarily by October 6, but many failed to comply. Law enforcement agencies then launched coordinated operations across multiple districts to locate and detain the escapees.

Among those recaptured are convicts involved in serious crimes, including rape, drug trafficking, theft, homicide, attempted murder, human trafficking, assault, and vehicular offences.

Officials confirmed that over 200 inmates remain at large, while efforts continue to trace them. The Kaski Prison Office reported that although physical records were destroyed in the arson attack during the unrest, digital archives containing prisoner data are safely preserved.
