US President Donald Trump issued a warning that Hamas will be disarmed violently if it fails to lay down arms within a “reasonable period,” following footage showing public executions and armed patrols in Gaza. The BBC verified videos showing Hamas fighters executing men accused of collaborating with Israel in Zeitoun neighbourhood, as well as armed patrols targeting rival clans and militias.
BBC reported that Hamas is mobilising its internal security forces to consolidate control over Gaza, suppressing groups like the Dughmush clan, which has historically challenged the group’s authority. Recent clashes have left over 50 people dead, including 12 Hamas fighters.
Residents expressed fear over public executions, calling them acts of lawlessness. Experts note that Washington is tolerating Hamas’s show of force to maintain order during the fragile ceasefire.
Trump added that the US recognizes Hamas’s role under the ceasefire, aiming to keep conditions safe for civilians returning to damaged areas.
