In a step toward smart urban governance, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched a Digital Address System (DAS) in its Ward No. 26, making it the first ward in the city to adopt the upgraded, technology-based system.

The new address system uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, enabling users to instantly access detailed information about houses within the ward through a simple scan.

Ward Chairperson Khyamraj Tiwari, who also coordinates KMC’s Good-Governance Committee, inaugurated the system by installing the first digital house number plate labeled “09 Lakshya 6111” at the Lainchaur ward office.

According to Tiwari, the system will help make property data more transparent and accessible. Each digital number plate will display the old address, street name, QR code, NFC chip, and both local and Universal Google Plus codes for precise identification.

Ward No. 26 has become the first to adopt this advanced version of KMC’s address system, originally introduced nearly 20 years ago.
