Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the family of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who was abducted by Hamas and later confirmed dead, will receive the same rights and support as families of missing Israeli citizens.

Joshi, one of the Nepali students studying in Israel under the “Learn and Earn” agricultural training program, was taken hostage during Hamas’ brutal October 7, 2023, attack on the Alumim Kibbutz. His remains were identified through forensic testing, the Israeli Defense Forces confirmed.

According to Israeli officials, Joshi’s body was among four handed over by Hamas on Monday night. The identification was carried out at the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv following detailed DNA analysis. His brother, Kishor Joshi, said the family has been informed and arrangements to bring Bipin’s body back to Nepal will be made after completing formal procedures.

DNA tests conducted earlier had indicated that Joshi likely died toward the end of 2023, though confirmation had not been made public until now.

The 2023 Hamas attack had claimed the lives of 10 Nepali students, while Joshi remained missing for months. His abduction video, showing him with his head covered and being taken inside a hospital, drew global attention and deep concern.

Israel’s decision to extend equal rights and care to Bipin Joshi’s family underscores what officials described as a gesture of humanitarian solidarity. The Israeli military has stated that further details regarding the circumstances of his death will be released after completing ongoing investigations.
