The Shree Swasthani Brata Katha, a Hindu religious observance in Nepal, has begun today. It is mainly celebrated by the Hindu community.
This traditional month-long ritual involves fasting and reciting the Swasthani scripture throughout the month of Magh, starting from Poush Shukla Purnima and continuing until Magh Shukla Purnima. During this period, people take holy baths. In every Hindu household, it is a tradition to listen to and recite the Swasthani Brata Katha. It is believed that this ritual brings good fortune, welfare, power, and even changes one's fate through the blessings of the goddess.
For one month, during this ritual, on the day of Magh Shukla Purnima, people offer 108 janai (sacred threads), 108 betel nuts, 108 betel leaves, 108 flowers, 108 rotis, 108 grains of rice, various fruits, incense, lighted lamps, offerings of sweets like shrikhanda, red sandalwood, vermillion, clothes, and gifts to the goddess, hoping their wishes to be fulfilled.
Additionally, the Salinadi Mela has begun today in Sankhu, Kathmandu. During this time, devotees worship the god Madhav Narayan and continue to visit in the mornings to perform holy baths and worship.
