The Texas State Legislature has officially declared March 13 as ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’ to honor Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.
On March 13, the Texas House of Representatives passed Resolution 530, giving official recognition to the day. The resolution was introduced by Texas State Representative Suleman Lalani, who is of Pakistani origin. The announcement was made during a session attended by five Nepali mayors from the Lumbini Circuit.
The resolution recognizes Lumbini’s historical and spiritual significance, highlighting its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important pilgrimage destination for Buddhists worldwide.
The 89th Texas House of Representatives has pledged to observe March 13, 2025, as ‘Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day’ and welcomed Nepali delegations working to promote Lumbini internationally.
The initiative to pass the resolution was led by Netra Pandey, vice-president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association of America, and civic leader Prabhat Dixit.
According to Pandey, the Nepali community in Texas will celebrate this day every year to promote Nepal’s tourism and cultural heritage.
