Kathmandu: In the ICC T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka defeated Australia to secure a spot in the ‘Super 12’ stage. On Monday night, Sri Lanka chased down Australia’s target of 182 runs, winning by 8 wickets and losing only 2 wickets in 18 overs.
Pathum Nissanka starred for Sri Lanka with a century, scoring an unbeaten 100 off 52 balls, while Kusal Mendis added 51 runs. Batting first, Australia was all out for 181, with Travis Head scoring 56 and captain Mitchell Marsh contributing 54. Sri Lanka now tops Group C with three consecutive wins and 6 points.
Meanwhile, England also advanced to the ‘Super 12’ after defeating Italy. Chasing England’s target of 203, Italy was bowled out for 178 runs. Batting first at Eden Gardens, England scored 202 for 7 wickets, winning the match by 24 runs to secure their place in the next stage.
