A suspicious bag was found near the Kankai Mai River bridge on the East–West Highway in Jhapa on Saturday morning. Inside the bag were a pressure cooker and some wires.

Police immediately closed the area and informed the Nepali Army’s bomb disposal team. The Army safely destroyed the bag at around 10 AM. A loud sound was heard during the operation, but no one was injured.

A leaflet found near the bag mentioned a group called “Sanatan Suraksha Sena Nepal.” The leaflet demanded the return of the monarchy and asked Nepal to be declared a Vedic Sanatan Hindu state. It also warned of a boycott of the March 5 election if these demands were not fulfilled.

Police said the area is now completely safe and that an investigation is underway to find out who placed the bag.
