Sumana Shrestha, a joint general secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and lawmaker in the Federal Parliament, has quit her position, with the intent of "becoming more active in lawmaking".
Shrestha’s resignation is in keeping with party President Rabi Lamichhane’s stance that an office-bearer should not hold more than one position in the party.
The meeting of the party’s central committee, which is slated for Thursday, is likely to discuss Shrestha’s resignation.
With a total of 21 lawmakers elected under direct and proportional representation systems, RSP is the fourth largest party in the 274-member parliament.
