Over Rs 84 Crore Claimed from Insurance Companies After Bhotekoshi Flood Damage

Businesses have filed insurance claims worth more than Rs 84 crore following the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on Asar 23, mainly for property losses.

The recent flood in Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi River has led to insurance claims totalling over Rs 848.4 million, according to the Insurance Board. The damage, which affected property, vehicles, and infrastructure, has prompted a significant number of businesses to seek compensation from various insurance companies.

 

Among the insurers, Himalayan Everest Insurance received the largest claim amounting to Rs 550 million, accounting for 64.82% of the total. Interestingly, this is based on just two claims, showing the scale of individual losses. Shikhar Insurance received 15 claims total ling Rs 169.6 million, while Neco Insurance saw three claims worth Rs 51.2 million.

 

Other companies involved include Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance (Rs 26.5 million from two claims), Nepal Insurance (Rs 16.3 million from 14 claims), United Ajod Insurance (Rs 9.1 million from three claims), and others such as IGI Prudential, Sanima GIC, NLG Insurance, Siddhartha Premier, and Prabhu Insurance, each receiving claims ranging from Rs 2.8 million to Rs 7.5 million.

 

The majority of claims, around Rs 580 million fall under property insurance. Others include marine insurance (Rs 162.5 million), engineering and contractor’s all risk insurance (Rs 160 million), and motor insurance, both public (Rs 29.8 million) and private (Rs 21.4 million).

 

This incident is one of the most significant natural disaster-related insurance events in recent years, with insurance firms now assessing liabilities and preparing for settlements.
