A high-level meeting between interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki and activist Durga Prasai has begun amid rising political tension, with both sides discussing his group’s major demands.
Prasai, accompanied by a 19-member team, is holding detailed talks with the Prime Minister and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on the 27-point charter submitted earlier this month. His camp has expressed dissatisfaction, saying the government has not acted on commitments made regarding issues of governance, national identity, and security.
The meeting, expected to shape the ongoing political climate, touches on Prasai’s demands such as scrapping the current constitution, introducing a directly elected executive system, reinstating a Hindu state, and strengthening national sovereignty.
The government has previously noted that such changes must come through electoral and constitutional processes. Prasai’s group has warned of escalating protests if their demands are not addressed.
