Amid continuous rainfall across the country, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a Yellow Alert for 47 districts, warning of rising river levels and a possible risk of flooding.
Although major rivers such as the Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali, Kamala, Bagmati, East Rapti, West Rapti, Babai, and Kankai are currently flowing below danger levels, their water levels are expected to rise throughout the day. The department has also flagged a moderate risk of flash floods in smaller rivers, particularly in the eastern and central regions.
Districts including Ilam, Jhapa, Udayapur, Sindhuli, Kavrepalanchok, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, and Chitwan have been listed as high-risk zones. In the west and mid-west, areas like Pyuthan, Rukum West, Nawalparasi (East and West), Jajarkot, Dolpa, Dailekh, Surkhet, Kailali, and Kanchanpur may also face rising water levels.
Other districts such as Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Bhojpur, Khotang, Dhading, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur are also on alert, with river flow likely to increase significantly.
The department has also predicted heavy rainfall in six provinces, including Madhes Province, later today. This may worsen the situation, raising the chance of local floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and riverbank areas.
People living in vulnerable districts have been asked to remain cautious and take safety precautions as needed.
