The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of strong winds, hailstorms, and rainfall across various parts of Nepal, particularly in some Terai districts this evening, urging the public to remain cautious.
People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and take safety measures, as such weather conditions could cause damage to life and property. Disaster management expert Dharmaraj Upreti stressed that ignoring weather warnings often worsens disaster impacts, urging people to stay indoors, avoid driving during storms, and keep away from trees and electric poles.
The Department said moderate rain and snowfall with thunder, lightning, hail, and wind are likely in many areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim, as well as hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini. Some Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Madhes provinces may also be affected.
Spokesperson Bibhuti Pokharel said strong winds, especially in the Terai, could develop from the afternoon and last for two to three hours, with speeds reaching 50–60 km/h. This may lead to fallen trees, damage to weak structures, and disruption of electricity and communication services.
He added that light rain with thunder and lightning has already begun in parts of Sudurpashchim, Karnali, and Lumbini, and the system is moving northeast.
The Department also warned of possible heavy rain or snowfall in a few hilly and mountainous areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim later in the day, driven by a western low-pressure system and local winds.
