Holi, the "Festival of Colours," is one of the most vibrant and joyful festivals celebrated in Nepal. This year, the spring festival marking the victory of good over evil falls on March 13.

Holi is a festival that brings people together. It's celebrated by throwing colored powders at friends, family, and even at strangers (with their consent). The streets come alive with laughter, music and people of all ages joining in the fun. The festival usually lasts for a day or two, with people singing traditional songs, dancing and enjoying special foods with refreshing drinks.

The significance of Holi goes beyond just the colors. It is rooted in Hindu mythology. One popular story is about the demon king Hiranyakashipu, who wanted everyone to worship him instead of the gods. His son, Prahlad, remained devoted to Lord Vishnu. Angered by his son's faith, the king tried to kill him, but his evil plans failed, and Prahlad was saved. This victory of good over evil is one of the key themes of the celebration.

Holi also marks the arrival of spring, a time when nature is in full bloom, and the world seems more colorful. People celebrate this season of renewal by sharing joy and happiness with each other.

Holi is a festival of inclusivity. It doesn't matter how old you are, where you come from or from which background. It’s a time to forget old grievances, move past conflicts and make new memories with loved ones.

While Holi is known for its colours, it is also a time for people to visit family and friends, exchange their love and strengthen bonds. It's a festival that celebrates life, love and unity.

As we celebrate Holi today, let’s remember to play safely, respect each other's space and enjoy the spirit of the festival with joy and togetherness!
