Today, people across the country are celebrating Shree Panchami with joy and devotion by worshipping Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge. Also popularly known as Basant Panchami, the festival is believed to bestow wisdom, intellect, and learning upon those who offer prayers to Goddess Saraswati.

The festival is observed every year on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Magh. On this occasion, Saraswati temples across the country have witnessed a large influx of devotees. From early morning, crowds of worshippers have gathered at places such as Swayambhu in Kathmandu, Lele Saraswati Kund in Lalitpur, and the Saraswati Temple in Thimi for prayers and darshan.

Students, in particular, worship books, pens, and musical instruments, seeking the blessings of the goddess. Likewise, it is customary on this day to conduct Akshararambha (initiation of children into learning) and to perform nose and ear piercing ceremonies for children.

In the Mithila region, Shree Panchami is also celebrated as the agricultural New Year with special festivities. Meanwhile, a traditional Basant Shravan programme is being organized today at Nasal Chowk of Hanumandhoka Durbar.

Associated with the arrival of the spring season, the festival carries a message of renewed energy and greenery in nature.
