The Indian rupee has fallen to a historic low of ₹91.73 against the US dollar. Continuous demand for the dollar and global market caution caused the rupee to depreciate by 76 paisa in early trading, bringing it to its weakest level ever.

Previously, on December 16, 2025, the rupee had hit a record low of ₹91.14, and this month alone, the local currency has lost 1.50% of its value.

According to foreign exchange traders, the US’s expansionary policies and growing geopolitical uncertainties have increased risk-aversion among investors, putting pressure on emerging market currencies. In addition, capital outflows and sluggish domestic stock markets have further weakened investor sentiment.
