The Nepali Congress is set to formally declare party president Gagan Thapa as its prime ministerial candidate ahead of the February 21 House of Representatives election. Today, the party’s Central Working Committee will meet at its Sanepa, Lalitpur headquarters to endorse the decision and set the stage for the party’s election campaign.
Thapa, elected as party president during the second special general convention earlier this month, will now be projected as the party’s prime ministerial face. According to Vice President Pushpa Bhusal, the meeting will focus on election preparations, including the formation of an election mobilization committee and discussions on the current political climate.
Following the meeting, Thapa, contesting from Sarlahi-4 in Madhesh Province instead of Kathmandu-4, will leave for his constituency to kick off an intensive election campaign. Party leaders say the move is part of a broader strategy to present Thapa as the central figure in the upcoming polls.
