Officials have reported that the accident occurred on the Khanni Top section of the Bhaderwah–Chamba interstate road in Doda district, India. Immediately after the crash, the army and police launched a joint rescue operation to recover the bodies and assist the injured.

According to reports, a bullet-proof vehicle carrying 20 security personnel was heading toward a post in the high Himalayan region when the driver lost control, causing it to plunge into a 200-foot-deep gorge.

In India, such fatal road accidents are common due to overloading, poor road conditions, and careless driving. According to statistics released by India’s Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in December 2024, nearly 178,000 people die in road accidents every year, with about 60% of victims aged between 18 and 34. Last year alone, over 480,000 road accidents were reported across the country.
