Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has been taken into police custody.
RPP’s Chief Whip, Gyanendra Shahi, was also detained.
Police arrested Lingden from Singhdurbar, the seat of the federal government secretariat, while the party was holding a protest on April 20.
Earlier in the day, RPP leaders and supporters marched toward New Baneshwor and entered a prohibited area close to the seat of the Federal Parliament during a symbolic protest. The party has been demonstrating against what it described as the government's increasing authoritarian behavior, the declaration of Nepal as a Sanatan Hindu state and reinstatement of constitutional monarchy and release of its two leaders—Rabindra Mishra and Dhawal Shumsher Rana—arrested in connection with the March 28 protest at Tinkune and Koteshwor.
