Resham Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), has been sent to Dillibazaar Jail following his arrest during a political event in Kathmandu. He was taken into custody during a program for announcing the unification of NUP and the Janamat Party.

Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara confirmed that Chaudhary's arrest was carried out under a Supreme Court order related to the Tikapur incident. The court had earlier sentenced Chaudhary to life in prison, holding him responsible for the violent events in Tikapur, Kailali.

Chaudhary had previously been jailed for the case but was released after receiving a presidential pardon on Republic Day. However, the Supreme Court’s decision now overrides that pardon, and police have acted to enforce the court’s ruling.

The arrest came as a surprise to many, especially as it happened during a political unity program, but authorities have made it clear that the action is in line with legal procedures.
