A group led by Sudhan Gurung staged a late-night protest outside Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s official residence in Baluwatar, demanding her resignation.
The demonstrators, angry over recent ministerial appointments, chanted slogans such as “Prime Minister resign” and “Don’t politicize the dead.” Family members of those killed during the Gen-Z protests also joined the rally.
Speaking at Gate No. 3 of the residence, Gurung declared, “The most powerful force in Nepal is its people. No one can stop us. If needed, we can remove anyone we put in power.”
Karki, who was appointed interim prime minister last Friday with the support of Gurung’s “Hamro Nepal” group, recently named three ministers—Om Prakash Aryal as Home Minister, Rameshwor Khanal as Finance Minister, and Kulman Ghising as Energy Minister.
But Gurung’s group expressed anger, saying the decisions were made without their consultation. Gurung particularly criticized Aryal’s appointment, accusing the prime minister of acting independently.
Security was stepped up around the prime minister’s residence as the protest continued.
