The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has instructed the Home Ministry and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration to stop deploying more employees than the approved number (sanctioned posts) in various government offices.

The Prime Minister’s Office has given both ministries seven days to properly manage the staffing. It has also asked them to submit a report with the names of the offices where extra staff are working, along with the names of those employees.

This move comes after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) received complaints that government offices, especially the Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport and some District Administration Offices, were operating with far more employees than allowed. Some places even had no official post, yet staff were sent there. Meanwhile, important posts remained vacant, causing problems in public service.

The PM’s Office has warned that if this issue is not corrected within the given time, it will take action as per existing civil service and good governance laws. It also reminded the ministries of earlier decisions made during official meetings about proper employee management, which have not been followed.
