A meeting of the National Security Council was held today at the Security Council Secretariat in Singha Durbar under the chairpersonship of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. The meeting held detailed discussions on the country’s current security situation, preparations for the upcoming election, and potential security challenges.
According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the meeting was convened to review security arrangements related to the House of Representatives election scheduled for Thursday. Discussions focused on on-site security management, protection of polling centers, and necessary coordination among government agencies.
High-level officials present at the meeting included Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal, Foreign Minister Balanand Sharma, Forest Minister Madhav Chaulagain, Chief of Army Staff Ashok Sigdel, and Chief Secretary Suman Raj Aryal.
During the meeting, ministers and senior security officials emphasized the need to maintain peace, order, and public safety throughout the election process. The Secretariat stated that decisions were also made to further strengthen coordination among security agencies.
Prime Minister Karki expressed her commitment to prioritizing sensitive national security issues and ensuring that the election process is conducted smoothly, fairly, and securely. She has previously emphasized safeguarding national security and political stability in regular meetings of the National Security Council.
