Prime Minister Sushila Karki has emphasized that self-awareness forms the foundation of good governance and sustainable prosperity. Speaking at the “Self-Awareness for Good Governance and Prosperity” program on Wednesday, she noted that self-awareness is not limited to spiritual practice alone. According to her, it is an effective life approach that fosters personal discipline, social responsibility, and ethical administration.

PM Karki said self-awareness helps citizens become internally peaceful, conscious, and responsible, while externally promoting duty-bound behavior and contributing to a prosperous society. She highlighted that it encourages awareness of one’s duties alongside rights. Drawing on Nepal’s indigenous philosophy, culture, and spiritual traditions, self-awareness is now essential for human resource development and administrative reform.

She added that self-awareness is expanding beyond personal transformation to support ethical governance, responsible leadership, and prudent use of technology globally. Achieving good governance and prosperity cannot be limited to the state alone; active participation from the private sector, civil society, and especially tech-savvy, socially conscious youth is vital.

“Self-awareness is the cornerstone of prosperity,” PM Karki said. “It teaches inner peace and personal happiness while guiding responsible, duty-bound behavior that contributes to a prosperous society. Self-aware individuals first discipline themselves and then extend responsibility to family, society, and the nation. They focus on duties, not just rights. Based on Nepal’s indigenous philosophy and traditions, self-awareness is now crucial for developing human resources and administrative reform. It has evolved into a global practice linking ethical governance, responsible leadership, and the prudent use of technology. Good governance and prosperity cannot remain confined to the state, they must extend to the private sector, civil society, and especially a creative, innovative, and responsible youth. Without ethical practices in the private sector, effective civil society oversight, and the creativity and responsibility of youth, inclusive and sustainable governance is impossible.”

She further stressed the importance of developing skilled and capable human resources for national development, noting that creativity and competency in youth are essential.
