CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has said that Balen (Balendra Shah) moved to Jhapa after failing to gain the trust of voters in Kathmandu.

Speaking at a voter interaction programme in Jhapa on Monday, Oli said that someone who has already won an election in Kathmandu lacks the courage to contest again from the same place because even people from his own district do not trust him.

“We need to understand why someone does not contest elections from their own district. When even people from their own area do not believe them, they cannot deceive voters there. A person who has already won in Kathmandu does not dare to run again from there, so why did he have to come here? Our friends understand this well,” Oli said.

Oli also expressed concern over growing rhetoric that divides people as Madhesi and Pahadi, saying such narratives are inappropriate. He stressed that discussions should focus on social justice and equality, which form the basis of social harmony and, ultimately, national unity.

“I have been hearing talk of Madhesi versus Pahadi here and there. That should not happen. We must talk about social justice and equality. On that basis, we should talk about social harmony, and from social harmony comes national unity. We all need to stay united and work to develop our respective places, villages, districts,” he said.
