Compared to the year 2019, when a coronavirus pandemic had hit hard the tourism sector and other sectors of the national economy in line with a pattern seen throughout the world, the tourism sector is doing better in Nepal, as data from the Nepal Tourism Board show.
According to the NTB, the month of March 2025 saw 1,21,687 international visitor arrivals (IVAs), which is 95% compared to March 2024.
At the same time, it is a 95.6 % recovery in comparison with the pre-pandemic arrivals in March 2019.
The first three months of 2025 (January-March) saw 2,98,558 IVAs.
For the month of March 2025, top 5 tourist-generating Markets were India (21,412) constituting 17.6% of the IVAs, followed by China (11,443), constituting 9.4%, the USA (11,092), constituting 9.1%, Sri Lanka (8,886), constituting 7.3% and the UK (5,995), constituting 5.2% of the IVAs.
Regionwise, South Asia (the SAARC region) accounted for 35, 287 or 29% of the IVAs, ASIA (excluding SAARC) 31,351 or 25.8%, Europe 25,468 or 21.4%, Oceania 4,643 or 3.8%, Americas 13,907 or 11.4%, the Mideast 2,732 or 2.2%, Africa 368 or 0.3% and Others 7,657 or 6.3% of the IVAs.
