The BP Highway will remain closed to vehicles during nighttime hours until October 7 as authorities move to reduce risks from heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides.
The Kavrepalanchok District Disaster Management Committee, headed by Chief District Officer Umesh Dhakal, announced that all non-essential traffic will be barred from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.
The restriction applies along the section from Kavrebhanjyang in Dhulikhel to Nepal Thok on the Sindhuli border. Vehicles from Kathmandu will be stopped at Kavrebhanjyang, while those from Sindhuli will be halted at Nepal Thok.
Officials said the decision follows past experiences where monsoon-triggered floods and landslides caused severe damage to stretches of the 160-kilometer highway, prompting similar safety measures in previous years.
