The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) had some ups and downs on Tuesday, but ended up closing higher than expected.

The market went up by 1.73 percent, reaching 2,671.80 points, even though there were concerns about who would be appointed as the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank after Maha Prasad Adhikari's term ended. Despite these concerns, the small increase was a good sign for investors, easing some of the market worries.

During the day, 1.64 million shares were traded, worth about 5.3 billion rupees. The stock prices of 121 companies went up, while 123 companies saw their prices drop. No company’s stock price stayed the same.

Of the 13 groups that trade on the exchange, six saw their values increase. The manufacturing and processing group had the biggest gain, rising by 1.83 percent to reach 7,059.57 points. At the same time, the commercial banking group saw the smallest rise, just 0.02 percent, reaching 1,364.33 points.

Other groups that saw increases included finance (up 0.92 percent), microfinance (up 0.16 percent), non-life insurance (up 0.71 percent), and trading (up 0.91 percent). However, the mutual fund group had a small drop of 0.07 percent.

Other sectors like development banks, hotels and tourism, hydropower, investment and life insurance also went up, helping the market end the day on a positive note.
