Nepal’s First Female Judge, Sharada Shrestha, Passed Away at 83

Sharada Shrestha, Nepal’s first female judge, has passed away at the age of 83.

She died early Friday morning at the Nepal Police Hospital in Maharajgunj, where she had been receiving treatment. Supreme Court spokesperson Nirajan Pandey confirmed that she had been ill for some time.

Her last rites will be held at Pashupati Aryaghat after 4 PM on Friday.

Sharada Shrestha made history in 1966 when she became the first woman in Nepal to be appointed as a judge, joining the Land Reform Special Court.
