Nepali Congress Pays Tribute to Dhundiraj Shastri

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba paid tribute to former party leader and Industry Minister Dhundiraj Shastri by covering his body with the party flag.

Shastri passed away on Monday at the age of 89 while receiving treatment at Kathmandu Medical College. His body was kept at the Nepali Congress central office in Sanepa on Wednesday for final respects.

President Deuba, along with party leaders, members, and supporters, gathered to honor him. Shastri was a respected leader, known for his work as a central member, minister, and socialist thinker.

Deuba praised Shastri’s role in Nepal’s political change and said he was one of the early voices for federalism in the country.

To honor him, the Nepali Congress decided to lower its flags to half-mast for three days — from June 18 to 20 — at all its offices across the country.
