The Nepali Congress has called an emergency meeting of its Central Working Committee due to growing internal political developments within the party.

According to a notice issued on Saturday morning by Central Office Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel, the meeting will be held at 9 am at the party’s central office in Sanepa.

Party office bearers, central committee members, invited members, and presidents of all seven provincial committees have been asked to attend.

The emergency meeting was called after the group led by General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma refused to cancel preparations for the special general convention scheduled for January 11 and 12. They said the convention is being demanded by 54 percent of the party’s general convention representatives.

Meanwhile, party delegates are continuing to arrive in Kathmandu for the special general convention. Preparations at the Bhrikutimandap venue have increased, with more activity being seen as the event approaches.
