Tensions across the Middle East have sharply intensified following a series of attacks on key energy facilities linked to the Iran–Israel conflict.
Qatar reported “extensive damage” at its Ras Laffan Industrial City, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing hub after Iranian missile strikes on Wednesday. While no casualties were reported and fires were brought under control, operations at the facility were disrupted. Qatar described the attack as a serious threat to national security and warned it reserves the right to respond.
The escalation came after a strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field, part of the world’s largest natural gas reserve shared with Qatar. Although Israel has not officially confirmed involvement, reports suggest it carried out the attack. The incident triggered a sharp rise in global oil prices, briefly nearing $110 per barrel.
Iran retaliated by launching strikes targeting multiple Gulf nations, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. In the UAE, authorities reported intercepted missiles aimed at major energy sites, leading to temporary suspension of gas operations. Saudi Arabia also confirmed intercepting drones and missiles targeting its eastern energy facilities, with minor injuries reported from falling debris.
The conflict, which intensified after large-scale US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February, continues to expand, raising concerns over regional stability and global energy security. Iran has warned of “uncontrollable consequences,” while Gulf nations remain on high alert amid fears of further escalation.
With key energy infrastructure under threat and supply routes like the Strait of Hormuz at risk, the ongoing crisis is increasingly impacting global oil and gas markets.
