Gagan Thapa, President of the Nepali Congress, has resigned from his position.
Thapa stepped down after being defeated in the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21.
He submitted his resignation to Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma on Wednesday.
Thapa, who had previously been elected from Kathmandu-4, had contested this time from Sarlahi-4, where he was defeated by Dr. Amaresh Kumar Singh of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
