Nepal’s women’s cricket team has achieved a historic milestone, defeating Malaysia 3–2 in the five-match T20 International series. In the decisive fifth match held in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday morning, Nepal triumphed by five wickets to seal the series victory.
Batting first after winning the toss, Malaysia posted a competitive total of 103 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Skipper Winifred Duraisingam top-scored with 40 runs. Nepal’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, restricting Malaysia’s scoring opportunities. Kavita Kunwar shone with the ball, taking three wickets for just 16 runs in four overs, while Rajmati Airee also claimed three wickets.
Chasing a target of 104, Nepal reached the mark in 18 overs, losing five wickets along the way. Ruby Podar led the batting with 26 runs, followed by Pooja Mahato with 23 runs, while captain Rubina Chhetri remained unbeaten on 15 to guide the team home.
Despite efforts from Malaysian bowlers Nur Dania Syuhada, Aisa Elisha, Aina Hamiza, Nur Alia Batrisyia, and Mahira Izzati, each taking one wicket, Nepal’s batters remained composed to secure the win.
The series was a rollercoaster for Nepal. After losing the opening match by just three runs, the team bounced back with a six-wicket win in the second. A narrow 13-run defeat in the third game put pressure on Nepal, but they responded strongly, winning the fourth and final matches by six and five wickets respectively to claim a memorable series victory.
