National Sports Climbing Championship 2025 Begins

A two-day National Sport Climbing Championship 2025 began at the Nepal Sport Climbing Center in Kaldhara, Kathmandu, on Friday.
 

Member-secretary of Nepal Sports Council, Tanka Lal Ghising, inaugurated the competition in which 19 athletes—13 men and 6 women—are battling it out to make it to the peak of this year's edition of the climbing event, sub-coordinator for the event, Pranil Man Shrestha, informed.
 

Nineteen participants are giving it all to make it to the top. Out of them, 13 are male and six are female. Later on, the names of the finalists—eight male athletes and six female athletes—will be selected and their names announced, in keeping with International Federation of Sport Climbing rules. All six female athletes will make it through the selection round because there were not many contestants.
 

Those making it through the selection round will do their uphill battles for top positions at around 10 am on Saturday.

Cash prizes and medals

The three top finalists from each category will walk away with a cash prize of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, along with medals and certificates.  
 

The annual national sport climbing championship goes years back. But this is the first championship being organized by a new team of the Nepal Climbing Sports Association, Shrestha informed.
 

He said they plan to organize junior and youth climbing competitions every year. The aim of these activities is to promote and develop sport climbing, Shrestha said.
