Nepal lost a nail-biting final match of the T20 Quadrangular Series to Kuwait by just 3 runs. The match, held at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong, was full of excitement and drama until the very last over.
Batting first, Kuwait set a target of 174 runs, finishing their innings at 174 for 7 in 20 overs. Ravija Sandaruwan was the top scorer for Kuwait with 63 runs, followed by Clinto Anto with 26 runs and Usman Ghani with 23 runs.
Nepal’s bowlers put up a good effort. Sompal Kami and Nandan Yadav each took two wickets, while Kushal Bhurtel grabbed one.
Chasing the target, Nepal made a strong comeback after a slow start. Bashir Ahmed played a brilliant knock, scoring 80 runs off 43 balls, including eight boundaries and four sixes. Nandan Yadav also contributed a fast 37 off just 14 balls with two fours and four sixes. Aasif Sheikh added 21 runs to the scoreboard.
Nepal was just 3 runs away from victory with three balls remaining when Bashir was caught by Clint Anto, ending their innings at 171 runs in 19.3 overs.
Kuwait’s bowlers held their nerves in the final overs. Anudeep Chandamara took 3 wickets, while Yasin Patel and Naveenraj Rajendran took 2 wickets each to help seal the win.
Despite the loss, Nepal’s strong performance throughout the series and their fighting spirit in the final match won the hearts of cricket fans.
