The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has called on private companies to submit expressions of interest (EOIs) for the construction of four major electricity transmission lines under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The notice, published on Sunday, is part of NEA’s broader plan to expand Nepal’s national grid to meet rising domestic electricity demand and boost cross-border power trade.

The proposed projects include the New Khimti–Dhalkebar, Arun (Hub)–Inaruwa, Tingla–Dudh Koshi–Dhalkebar, and Lapsiphedi–Tinpipley transmission lines. Two of the lines — New Khimti–Dhalkebar and Arun (Hub)–Inaruwa — will each operate at a 400kV capacity, covering 80 kilometers and 94 kilometers respectively, with an estimated cost of USD 80 million each.

The Tingla–Dudh Koshi–Dhalkebar line will be the longest, stretching 118 kilometers and expected to cost around USD 142 million. The fourth project, Lapsiphedi–Tinpipley, will be a 220kV transmission line spanning 30 kilometers, with a construction estimate of USD 18 million.

NEA has invited interested domestic and international companies to submit their EOIs within 30 days from the date of the notice. These joint investment projects are seen as key to strengthening Nepal’s electricity infrastructure and enabling the country to better manage increasing power generation and trade in the region.
