The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, has said that some of its staff working in Gaza are suffering from severe hunger, according to news agency AFP. UNRWA reported receiving heartbreaking messages from staff describing the pain caused by extreme hunger.

Gaza, with a population of over 2 million people, is currently facing a serious food crisis. Doctors, emergency workers, and international aid groups have warned that cases of malnutrition are rising rapidly.

Due to a severe shortage of essential supplies, food prices in Gaza have increased up to 40 times, making basic items unaffordable for most people. Aid organizations have said the suffering in Gaza is man-made and must be stopped immediately.

After peace talks failed in March, Israel imposed a full blockade on Gaza. For nearly two months, no aid or goods were allowed in. Only in late May were a few aid trucks permitted to enter.

On Sunday, local emergency officials reported that three newborn babies died last week due to hunger and malnutrition. Gaza’s health ministry also said that 18 people died from hunger in just 24 hours between Saturday and Sunday.
