A nationwide voter education program has started today ahead of the House of Representatives (HoR) elections on March 5.

The Election Commission (EC) has launched this special campaign following the Election Education and Voter Education Guidelines, 2078 BS. Its goal is to teach citizens about the importance of voting and how to vote correctly.

The program will run in all 6,743 wards across 753 local levels until March 1. In each ward, one volunteer will go to communities and homes, using sample ballot papers to explain the election process and how to cast votes properly.

The EC believes that educating voters will increase voter turnout and reduce invalid votes. Assistant Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the Commission has asked for support from provincial governments, local authorities, political parties, candidates, and the media to make the campaign successful.
