The National Assembly approved the Film Bill in its Wednesday meeting at Singha Durbar.
Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Shraddha Shrestha presented the bill on behalf of Prime Minister and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Sushila Karki. The upper house approved it unanimously.
Before approving the bill, members discussed it along with a report from the Legislation Management Committee.
The new bill updates the Film Act of 1969 to match Nepal’s federal system and the latest technologies in the film industry.
In the same meeting, Tulasa Kumari Dahal, Chairperson of the Legislation Management Committee, presented the committee’s annual report for the 2024/25 fiscal year.
Members whose six-year terms are ending also shared their experiences and achievements during their time in office.
The next National Assembly meeting is scheduled for Friday.
