MP Shakti Basnet Criticizes Unequal Budget Allocation, Proposes Symbolic Cut

During a meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Shakti Bahadur Basnet proposed a symbolic one-rupee cut in the budget allocated to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

Basnet raised concerns over the unfair distribution of the ministry’s budget. He said that while the overall budget has increased, many areas including some entire constituencies, were left out of road infrastructure development plans.

“There are places with no budget at all for road construction. That’s highly irresponsible,” he said. He also pointed out that even funding for major road corridors had been reduced and claimed that some districts were favoured while others were completely ignored. Basnet called this approach unjust and demanded more balanced planning.
