A devastating road accident in Chitwan has taken the lives of seven people, leaving many families in shock and grief. The collision between a passenger bus and a microbus occurred on the East-West Highway at Rapti Municipality-3 on Friday.
The passenger bus, heading from Dhangadhi to Kakarbhitta, collided head-on with a microbus coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that seven passengers lost their lives on the spot, including five women—one of them pregnant—and two men.
So far, two of the victims have been identified: 55-year-old Som Prasad Rupakheti and 53-year-old Maiya Kumari Neupane, both from Makwanpur. The identities of the other victims are yet to be confirmed, adding to the anxiety of families waiting for news of their loved ones.
Emergency teams quickly rescued the injured and rushed them to hospitals in Bharatpur. They are now being treated at Old Medical College, New Medical College, and Alive Hospital of Bharatpur. Among the 20 injured, some are reported to be in critical condition.
For hours, the highway remained blocked, stranding travelers on both sides. Police have now arranged a diversion to ease traffic flow, but the sense of tragedy still hangs heavy over the area.
This heartbreaking accident is yet another reminder of the dangers on Nepal’s busy highways and the pain left behind for the families who lose their loved ones in such sudden tragedies.
