The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has said that this year’s monsoon is expected to enter Nepal from the eastern region in the next three days, most likely by this coming Saturday.
According to the Monsoon Monitoring Bulletin, the monsoon is likely to begin in Nepal by the end of this week.
The Forecasting Division of the department has reported that the monsoon has already reached parts of Assam in India, as well as eastern regions of Bhutan and Bangladesh.
Earlier, the department had predicted that this year’s monsoon season will bring more rainfall and higher temperatures than average.
Normally, the monsoon enters Nepal around June 13 and ends around October 2. During this period, about 80 percent of the country’s annual rainfall occurs.
This year, the monsoon is expected to arrive earlier than usual.
Meanwhile, today, the weather is changing in many areas of the country due to the influence of three weather systems.
Western and local winds, along with some moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal, are causing partly to generally cloudy conditions in hilly areas, especially in Lumbini, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. The rest of the country is likely to have clear weather.
Meteorologists have said that there is a chance of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in some hilly areas today.
From tonight, the moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal is expected to become more active, which may cause heavy rainfall in many places from Lumbini to eastern Nepal, according to meteorologist Binod Pokhrel.
